FORMER Newport County AFC loan star Ben White has received a shock England call-up ahead of the European Championships.
Brighton defender White has been selected in a 33-man squad that will be trimmed down to 26 players next Tuesday.
The 23-year-old was a huge hit at County in 2017/18 after signing on loan, making 51 appearances in amber and helping the club to stun Leeds in the FA Cup and force a draw against Spurs.
White went on to have an impressive loan spell with Leeds and has been linked with big-money moves to both Liverpool and Manchester United thanks to his fine debut campaign in the Premier League, playing in 36 of Brighton’s 38 matches.
He also returned to Rodney Parade for the penalty shootout win over the Exiles in round three of the FA Cup.
White, Ben Godfrey and Aaron Ramsdale received their first England call-ups while Gareth Southgate has selected Trent Alexander-Arnold among four right-backs.
With the Three Lions dealing with issues such as injuries and European final absentees, the Football Association confirmed a larger provisional squad would be announced on Tuesday rather than the definitive squad.
Southgate has been able to include injury doubts such as Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips.
Ahead of naming his final #EURO2020 squad next week, Gareth Southgate has selected 33 players to join up with the #ThreeLions from this weekend as our preparations for this summer's tournament get under way.
