BOSS Michael Flynn expects Newport County AFC to reap the rewards of Wales' squad selection for the delayed Euros, regardless of whether playmaker Josh Sheehan makes the cut.

The 26-year-old playmaker will find out whether he is part of Robert Page's squad for the championships on Sunday while in the Exiles' team hotel ahead of Monday's League Two play-off final.

Sheehan has had a superb campaign for County to earn international recognition with caps as a substitute against the USA and Mexico.

The midfielder, who captained Newport in the semi-final win against Forest Green in the absence of Joss Labadie, is pivotal to the hopes of beating Morecambe for a place in League One.

Sheehan should thrive on the Wembley surface and Flynn doesn't expect the Euros decision to impact his efforts against the Shrimps.

The manager said: "I will have to speak to the Football Association of Wales and see if they can put it back to Monday night, that's not thought through too much for my liking!

"Whether it's positive or negative he will have to deal with it. He will either be disappointed or excited, either way it can drive him on to have a good game.

"If it is a negative then he has to turn it into a positive and show them what they are going to miss.

"If it's already a positive, he has to show them what they will be getting and how much he will push for a starting place."

Monday looks likely to be Sheehan's last game for County, even if they head up to League One.

Last summer Bristol Rovers made a bid but failed to hit a buy-out clause but now he is out of contract and a move to a higher level seems certain.

"He has got so much ability and is ambitious," said Flynn. "It could be his last Newport game because I am sure the attention he has been attracting this season means there will be a lot of suitors for him."

Sheehan has fought back from a serious knee injury to become a County talisman and earn Wales honours.

"Josh is an outstanding footballer and if he hadn't had that bad injury I think he would have had an international call-up earlier and he probably would have stayed at Swansea," said Flynn.

"I am very fortunate to be working with him. He is a diamond, a true gentleman who deserves all the success that he gets."
