A NEW batch of Gwent sporting heroes will be toasted when the third South Wales Argus Sports Awards are held.

The awards will be broadcast online on Facebook, with 14 accolades to be handed out to individuals and clubs that have had a year to remember.

You can now nominate those that deserve to be recognised for their efforts at southwalesargus.co.uk/sportsawards

With Covid restricting many sports throughout the past year and beyond, the Argus wants to celebrate Gwent's sporting talents.

South Wales Argus editor, Gavin Thompson said: "The South Wales Argus Sports Awards will once again showcase the very best in community and professional sport in the Gwent region.

"Over the past 18 months we've seen how important our sports clubs are to our communities, not just on the field but off it too, so I'm delighted we can shine a spotlight on some of the great work these clubs and individuals have done.

"I encourage everyone involved in local sport to nominate someone or put themselves forward. There are a range of categories to celebrate the heroes and top performers in local sport. It is really easy to nominate so please give someone the pat on the back they deserve put putting their name forward via our online entry form."

A high-quality video production will be filmed edited and broadcast live on the South Wales Argus Facebook page, and will be able to view afterwards at any time. This will allow our audience, nominees and sponsors to get involved by sharing, commenting, and liking.

The 2020 South Wales Argus Sports Awards were watched by more than 8,700 people, and received more than 170 comments, shares and likes. We ran weekly stories that appeared over a 20 week period, with a pre- and post-event supplement dedicated to all the nominees, winners, and sponsors, as well as 100s of in-paper promotions that drove nominations and included all of our sponsors branding.

Each category received a celebratory endorsement from Rupert Moon, Mr Motivator, Linford Christie, Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, Mike Bushell, Chris Gayle to name a few as well as our host Jason Mohammad.

Nominations for this year's awards, which take place on Thursday, October 14, can be made by visiting southwalesargus.co.uk/sportsawards, where there is a full description of each category.
