NEWPORT County AFC have signed left-back Adam Lewis on a season-long loan from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old will head to Rodney Parade to battle with Aaron Lewis for the start down the flank, replacing Ryan Haynes in the squad.

The Liverpudlian has played a solitary game for the Reds against Shrewsbury in the FA in 2020 before having loan spells at Amiens in France, Plymouth Argyle and Livingston.

He made 14 appearances in Scotland last season when he suffered a broken foot before returning to play in five of the Lions’ final eight games in the Premiership.

Lewis is a former winger who has moved back into defence and will be tasked with providing energy in attack and defence.

The England Under-20 international is comfortable as a regular left-back in a flat four or as a wing-back and follows in the footsteps of Liverpool midfielder Jake Cain, who enjoyed a strong first season in senior football with County in 2021/22.

“I’m delighted to welcome Adam to the club and I’m excited to see how his qualities will improve us as a team,” said manager James Rowberry.

“I have no doubt that his experience at higher levels, as well as his international pedigree, will be a huge help to our processes to take the club forward.”

Lewis is the club's seventh signing centre-back Declan Drysale (Coventry) and midfielders Sam Bowen (Cardiff), Aaron Wildig (Morecambe) and strikers Will Evans (Bala), Chanka Zimba (Cardiff, loan) and Offranda Zanzala (Barrow).
