NEWPORT County AFC will have to be patient in their pursuit of a further attacking midfielder, according to James Rowberry.

The Exiles have had a busy summer so far, bringing in eight new signings.

Omar Bogle, Offrande Zanzala and Will Evans have come in on permanent deals up top, with Sam Bowen and Aaron Wildig strengthening the midfield and Declan Drysdale coming in at the back.

Liverpool left-back Adam Lewis and Cardiff City striker Chanka Zimba have joined on loan for the season, with Rowberry saying the club were focusing on bringing in quality over quantity when it came to loanees.

The club got their business done early, with five players signing before the window officially opened and Bogle the only signing not featuring in the first pre-season friendly at Undy.

The boss confirmed the club is in the market for another player – an attacking midfielder – but admitted they would have to be patient if they are to get the right man in.

“A lot of the Premier League teams are away at the minute on their pre-season camps,” said Rowberry. “We’ve got three of them abroad with three different targets we’re looking at. There’s some in the Championship we’re looking at.

“We’ve got a list of four or five that we’re considering and we’re in dialogue at the minute, but we’re just waiting.

“We’ve got to be patient on that.

“We’ve got a plan but it’s agile.”

County are no strangers to waiting late into the window to sign promising youngsters on loan. Aston Villa loanee Finn Azaz arrived shortly before the start of last season, followed by Swansea's Ollie Cooper and Liverpool's Jake Cain on deadline day.

Rowberry has spoken this summer about limiting the number of loan players coming in the door, instead working on bringing in permanent signings and working on developing those already at Rodney Parade.

“I was really keen on that because I didn’t want to be in a position at the end of the season where I need 20 players,” said Rowberry.

“This is what has suited us and I didn’t want to have seven loans because then I don’t think that I am doing my job properly.

“I need to make sure we are building for the club and trying to sign players who can be an investment.”
