NEWPORT County AFC manager James Rowberry has vowed to deal with the “noise” that comes from their losing streak at Rodney Parade as they prepare to host Salford City.

The Exiles head into tomorrow's clash with the Ammies (kick-off 7.45pm) on a six-game losing streak on home soil, five at the end of last season and to Walsall to kick off the current League Two campaign.

County lost seven on the spin in Newport when they finished the 1987/88 season with six defeats when relegated from the Football League before Kettering left with the spoils in the first home Conference fixture.

Rowberry pointed to a summer of change when insisting that the losing streak will not be a factor for his new-look side.

“People will make it a thing but we have nine new players from last year,” said the manager.

“I am aware of it but I am also aware that we can put it right, and we will put it right, we have to.

“The noise will be there around it, which I understand. It's my job to manage that and the group. We will get success, I know that we will.”

County are yet to fire in League Two after an opening day draw at Sutton was followed by defeats to Walsall and Bradford.

Salford, meanwhile, have started the campaign impressively after a rare quiet summer under boss Neil Wood, who was appointed in May.

The Ammies, who did the double over County last season, have beaten Mansfield and Crewe at home either side of a draw at Swindon.

“With the manager they have brought in they are going to be very much more of a possession-based team,” said Rowberry.

“They will be really well coached and we've got to make sure we are rugged to come out on top in tackles and headers and to win one versus one battles. We didn’t quite do that well enough at Bradford.”

Central defender Declan Drysdale will serve a one-match ban for his red card on the stroke of half-time at Bradford when he was adjudged to have brought down Andy Cook as the last man.

James Clarke was put through his paces before the game at Valley Parade is set to feature for the first time this season after suffering a minor hip injury ahead of the season opener.

Striker Offrande Zanzala is touch and go after missing the weekend fixture as a precaution with a tight leg while midfielders Aaron Wildig and Robbie Willmott limped off in the first half in Yorkshire.

“We will be able to get back on the horse and play against Salford, it's a chance for us to put things right,” said Rowberry.

“The way we have to look at it is that it's a real chance for us to push forward with Salford, Tranmere, Portsmouth at home.”
