CWMBRAN Celtic got their season up and running with a win at champions Llantwit Major while Abergavenny also broke their Cymru South duck.

Celtic headed to the Windmill Ground on Saturday afternoon on the back of defeats to Taffs Well and Llanelli.

They brought the heat to take the spoils against the champions, who now prop up the table after they topped the pile last season only to not have the criteria needed for the Cymru Premier.

Cwmbran got their noses in front after just 10 minutes when Alex Bonthron scored on the half-volley and they doubled the lead ten minutes after the restart when he kept his nerve from the penalty spot.

Celtic entertain Cambrian & Clydach, who have won two and lost one, this Saturday.

Abergavenny also tasted success for the first time this season in the league when they beat Goytre United on Friday evening.

Sean Wharton's side triumphed 3-1 with Dan MacDonald earning a 1-0 half-time lead and a Ben Watkins double sandwiched a strike from the visitors. A trip to winless Ynyshir Albions is next up.

Undy Athletic are setting the pace in the Ardal South East after beating Trethomas Bluebirds on Tuesday night.

Undy, relegated from Cymru South last season, made it four wins from four thanks to a 2-1 victory at the Causeway.

Tom Wright put them ahead in the second half only for Will Bevan to level for Trethomas.

Sam Broadribb popped up with the winner after 77 minutes and Undy could even afford to miss a penalty in added time.

Chepstow dropped points for the first time this season when held to a 1-1 home draw by Monmouth Town.

The visitors took an early lead through Finley Thorp but Tom Pearson levelled in the closing stages.

RTB Ebbw Vale took the spoils 2-0 against Newport City, who are yet to register a point, after strikes by Charles Davies and Tomas Lynch.

Nobody was able to break the deadlock in the clash between north Gwent neighbours Blaenavon Blues and Tredegar Town.
