CROSS Keys fitness and skills coach Matthew Back is to leave the club to take up a role as assistant coach with Division One East outfit Caerphilly.

Back arrived at Pandy Park in the summer but has moved on to Virginia Park, where he will be responsible for the backs, in order to gain more hands-on experience.

Chances had been limited with Keys as Dai Manley has proved to be a huge hit since joining the club as backs coach before the current campaign.

Keys secretary Chris Clarke said: "We thank Matthew hugely for his efforts at the club and we would be more than happy to have him back here in the future.

"He put a great deal of work in since arriving here and we are very grateful, we wish him the best of luck in his new role."

Back moves to a Caerphilly side that are in a tense battle with Pontypool and Bargoed for top spot in One East, the Cheesemen and Pooler having passed the criteria test for entry to the top flight.

l The WRU has agreed a three-year sponsorship deal with Welsh energy company Swalec that will see £1million pumped into the game.

The deal, which starts next season, will see the return of the Swalec Cup in place of the current package with Konica Minolta.

It will be a three-tier competition with a plate and bowl for those knocked out of the cup in the early stages.

The Welsh club competition was last branded as the Swalec Cup in 1999 when the trophy was won by Swansea who defeated Llanelli 37-10 at Ninian Park in Cardiff.

The company will also sponsor the leagues beneath the Premiership, which are without a sponsor this season after previously taking the name of Asda, as well as Wales Under-20s and Under-18s.

The funding comes hot on the heels of the WRU joining forces with American sports company Under Armour, who paid £10million to provide the kit for the national side.
