NIGHT owl Enzo Maccarinelli today tells the Argus that he's in the best condition of his career ahead of his mouth-watering Battle of Britain' fight with David Haye.

WBO cruiserweight king Maccarinelli, part of the Team Calzaghe' stable, puts his WBO belt on the line for a shot at Haye's WBC and WBA crowns at the O2 Arena on March 8.

The hugely-anticipated clash will be screened live on both sides of the Atlantic and Maccarinelli, who like Haye has lost just once in his career, insists his preparations have been perfect so far.

He explained: "I am in the best shape of my life, without a doubt.

"Enzo Calzaghe (Newbridge trainer and Team Calzaghe supremo) has been more sadistic than ever in order to get me into the best shape possible.

"His preparation is always pretty brutal but this time it's been at a different level of torture!

"I am feeling good though and very, very fit physically. We are training to go 12 rounds without having any let-up in ferocity.

"I want to have the same impact with my big shots whatever time it is in the fight, I will be able to knock him out after 12 seconds or 12 rounds.

"If it goes the distance he won't be able to live with me, he's not as natural at cruiserweight and I will be totally prepared for it to go the distance."

Maccarinelli, mindful of the 2am start time, has been training twice a day, both in the afternoon and late at night.

"I've had plenty of fights late at night so it doesn't faze me, but I am training at night so I am used to being very active at that time," he said.

"To be honest I am a night owl anyway, a couple of days ago I stayed up until 2am to watch Rambo II!

"I won't leave anything to chance ahead of this fight, it's the biggest of my career and I've been waiting for over a year to fight Haye since I originally signed to meet him last March.

"People are expecting it to be explosive and I believe it will be, it's a huge all-British occasion and I am thrilled people are so excited.

"I can't wait to be honest, I've waited my whole career for this fight."

Maccarinelli's trainer Enzo Calzaghe is typically bullish about his man's chances.

He explained: "If this fight goes 12 rounds then David Haye's career will be over.

"Enzo has the better boxing skills, he's a huge puncher and we train people to do in one minute what most fighters can't even do in an entire round.

"Haye has a puncher's chance, but he is going to get destroyed."
