NEWPORT edged past Pontypridd 36-31 after a fantastic encounter at Rodney Parade.
Both sides scored five tries in a terrific game, Newport's coming from Andrew Coombs (2), Craig Hill, James Dixon and a penalty try.
But Ponty showed plenty of spirit and crossed five times themselves through Tom Riley (2), impressive centre Adam Thomas (2) and makeshift scrum-half Kristian Baller.
However, the kicking of Dan Griffiths was the difference and the Black and Ambers look for a fifth win on the bounce when they host Neath on Wednesday.
It wasn't such a good afternoon for Ebbw Vale, who lost 23-20 at Bedwas with the last kick of the game, while Cross Keys also suffered defeat, going down 32-26 at Llanelli.
