TALKS are taking place about Newport County AFC’s League Two trip to Swindon and the Dragons’ friendly at the Scarlets after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Exiles travel to Swindon on Saturday afternoon but it looks likely that professional sport will be postponed this weekend.

The League Two clash between Tranmere and Stockport on Friday has already been pushed back to later in the season.

The Dragons are scheduled to head to Llanelli on Friday for their final United Rugby Championship tune-up but that encounter could now be shelved with an announcement likely on Friday morning.

Glasgow and Ulster's friendly has already been cancelled.

The Press Association understands that a meeting of governing bodies across a range of sports has been scheduled for the morning, where officials from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will set out Government guidance on the official period of mourning.

The EFL say they will make an announcement as soon as possible regarding Saturday's games.

“Consideration in respect of EFL fixtures will be discussed with the Government and the wider sport sector during the period ahead and an appropriate announcement will be made at the earliest opportunity,” read a statement.

The Welsh Rugby Union will announce the impact on club rugby with Ebbw Vale set to host Llanelli and Newport heading to RGC in the Premiership.

Pontypool, Cross Keys, Bedwas and Bargoed are scheduled to be in Championship action.

The Premiership fixture between Swansea and Aberavon went ahead on Thursday evening but it wasn’t streamed live by S4C as had been planned.

Cwmbran Celtic are set to head to Swansea University in Cymru South on Friday while Abergavenny Town entertain Carmarthen Town.

There is also action in round one of the Ardal League Cup (South) this weekend.

Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham and Hearts were all in European action but play was stopped at golf’s PGA Championship and they will not be in action at Wentworth on Friday.

The third and deciding Test between England and South Africa will be paused for at least a day.

The British Horseracing Authority also announced the meetings scheduled for Friday – including the third day of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster – have also been cancelled.
