NEWPORT County AFC midfielder Scot Bennett is an injury doubt for Tuesday’s trip to Stevenage in League Two.

The 31-year-old stalwart went down at the end of the first half of the 2-0 loss to Grimsby last Saturday with a thigh problem and was replaced at the break.

Bennett would have missed tomorrow's trip to Swindon Town but has been postponed after the death of the Queen.

The midfielder will now target Tuesday’s game at Stevenage and next Saturday’s home encounter with Barrow.

"Scot has been carrying a slight thigh injury," said manager James Rowberry. "He was carrying it leading up to the Grimsby game, hence why he came off at half-time.

"We are hoping he will be available for Stevenage or Barrow."

Bennett’s absence would open the door for Sam Bowen, Robbie Willmott or recent loan signing from Aston Villa Hayden Lindley to come into the XI.

Lindley only had one day of training with his new teammates after arriving from the Premier League club on deadline day.

The 20-year-old has been brought in to push Bennett in the battle to be the starting holding midfielder and has had a strong week after making a good first impression.

“One of the things that I watched last Saturday, after doing my press duties, was the lads [that didn't feature] doing their running,” said Rowberry.

“They don't know that I am watching half of the time but I saw Hayden running at the front of the group being forceful.

“He was trying to run as best as he could and be as dynamic as he could, and from that moment he has been really good in training. So have the other lads in midfield, but I was really impressed by that.”

Striker Offrande Zanzala is the only player on the long-term injured list after a hamstring problem that will rule him out until November.
