HUW Taylor will start for Bedford in their English Championship clash with Caldy tomorrow after joining on loan from the Dragons.

The lock/flanker has headed for England's second tier to get game time so that he is ready if needed for the United Rugby Championship.

He follows in the footsteps of his brother Ed, who captained Bedford when making 81 appearances for the Goldington Road between 2016 and 2020.

Huw finished last season strongly to earn a one-year contract extension, with his versatility useful in a small squad.

The 26-year-old is backing specialist second rowers Will Rowlands, Ben Carter, Sean Lonsdale, George Nott and Joe Davies while also being an option at blindside flanker in the back row, a traditional area of strength at the Dragons.

The Rodney Parade club have already sent hooker Ellis Shipp to Hartpury, with the 25-year-old making his debut off the bench at the start of September before a pair of starts.

The Dragons currently have Wales duo Elliot Dee and Bradley Roberts fighting it out, backed up by James Benjamin.

Shipp has been joined in Gloucestershire by flanker Lennon Greggains, who will look to push for Dragons action after shining for Newport RFC and featuring against Zebre and the Lions last season.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks with Taine Basham and Ben Fry but has been hindered by injury misfortune.
