FORMER Newport County AFC striker Courtney Baker-Richardson had his fine start to life at Crewe Alexandra stalled by an injury suffered while playing on his Xbox.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form since moving to Gresty Road from Rodney Parade this summer, scoring seven goals in 12 appearances.

However, the forward missed Saturday's 0-0 draw at Carlisle after suffering a hip muscle injury while gaming at home.

"He did it in an innocuous way, which is about right for us with injuries at the moment," said Crewe boss Alex Morris.

"He did it playing on his Xbox. Dropped his leg on the sofa and tweaked it.

"It's an area of his body where he's had issues before. There's nothing we can do about it, but he's having treatment and hopefully it settles down."

The striker was troubled by a hip injury at Barrow before heading to County last season to form a strong little-and-large partnership with golden boot winner Dom Telford.

Baker-Richardson's goal tally of eight in 32 appearances was solid if unspectacular but it was his work rate that impressed, both defensively and when helping his strike partner thrive.

County offered him a deal but he turned that down in favour of a two-year contract with the Railwaymen, who are trying to bounce back from League One relegation.

Baker-Richardson could have a reunion with the Exiles in Crewe on December 3 before returning to Rodney Parade on the last day of the season.
