NEWPORT County AFC won't play again until February after this afternoon's League Two fixture against AFC Wimbledon was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The Exiles had been scheduled to welcome the Dons to Newport but, despite the best efforts of the ground staff and covers on the surface, the Rodney Parade pitch was deemed unplayable.

The Dragons host the Lions in the European Challenge Cup on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 1pm) and if Rodney Parade does not thaw then their nominated back-up ground is their Ystrad Mynach training base.

Newport RFC's Premiership game against Llandovery at Spytty Park suffered the same fate while Ebbw Vale's game with Cardiff at Eugene Cross Park was postponed on Friday.

Pontypool's Championship Cup tie against Bargoed also failed a pitch inspection along with Cross Keys against Beddau and Bedwas versus Ystrad Rhondda.

County were next meant to be in action at Grimsby next weekend but that game has been postponed because the Mariners are in FA Cup action.

Graham Coughlan will now turn his attention towards adding to his squad in the January transfer window with the next game the home encounter with Swindon on Saturday, February 4.

County will watch the relegation battle with interest while kicking their heels on the sidelines.

There are two key clashes between strugglers this afternoon with Colchester hosting Gillingham and Rochdale heading to Hartlepool. Harroate go to Grimsby while Crawley are at Sutton.

There is Tuesday action with Pools travelling to Carlisle, Colchester hosting Salford and Crawley entertaining Grimsby.

Next Saturday Crawley host Salford, Harrogate welcome Sutton to Yorkshire and Hartlepool face Colchester, Rochdale entertain Carlisle and Gillingham travel to Swindon.
