NEWPORT County AFC’s board have pledged total transparency about the club’s finances at a meeting next week ahead of an AGM later in the month.

The Exiles are holding a meeting with club shareholders, Trust members and community shareholders at Rodney Parade next Tuesday (7pm).

The board have pledged to provide a financial update and overview of future plans.

There will then be the annual general meeting of the club on Thursday, June 29 (7pm) in which there will be some ‘special business’.

Notably, one of those points is a move to “amend the Articles of Association by the insertion of new articles 5, 15 and 16”.

Details of what that entails will be provided at next week’s meeting and the amended articles will be posted on County’s website ahead of the AGM.

The Exiles are a Trust-owned club and there has been speculation about the possibility of moving away from that structure, especially after Miami-based businessman Jon Pratt was co-opted onto the board in February.

“On Tuesday we will be as transparent as we can,” said director Peter Madigan. “There will be an agenda to the meeting and we want to tell the fans what has been going on and what we are going to do.

“There have been all sorts of rumours flying around so what we would like to do is not keep things from people but have the meeting in the meeting, if that makes sense.

“That gives us the opportunity to put things in context, provide all the information and not be in a situation where you are putting a lot of stuff out there without the ability to put it in context.

“We will not put FAQs out, if people have questions then we want them to ask and we will answer them.

“If we can’t answer them at the time then we will take their details and get back to them because we want it to be an interactive meeting about the way forward.

“We will put the information on slides, go through what we have been doing and what the numbers mean and then ask for questions.”

To register for Tuesday’s meeting supporters have been asked to email office@newport-county.co.uk stating whether they are a club shareholder, Trust member or community shareholder.

Shareholders wishing to attend the AGM are asked to email the same address in advance.
