NEWPORT County AFC will be playing for an away knockout tie when they host Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Exiles and the Gas are in a straight shootout for second place in Group H after West Ham Under-21s completed a clean sweep.

The young Hammers, who edged out County 1-0, triumphed 4-0 at Cheltenham on Tuesday evening thanks to goals by Ollie Scarles, Divin Mubama, George Earthy and Callum Marshall.

West Ham progress to the last 32, which is still split into north and south, as group winners and earn a home tie.

That leaves County and Rovers to fight it out at Rodney Parade next week for the runners-up spot and a handy cash prize.

Both sides beat Cheltenham and are on three points but goal difference won’t come into play because there has to be a winner on the night.

If it is a draw then there will be a penalty shootout to decide who goes through to the last 32, which will be played on the week of December 4, which is between the Exiles’ home FA Cup tie against Barnet and the League Two trip to Tranmere.

Graham Coughlan’s side made the knockout stages last season but lost at MK Dons, then of League One but who they host in League Two on Saturday.
