NEWPORT County AFC have learnt their date for a potential FA Cup clash with Manchester United – and the six-figure fee for it being televised.
The Exiles have to beat Eastleigh in a third-round replay to earn a shot at the Red Devils at Rodney Parade.
If they avoid an upset against the National League side, who showed spirit with 10 men to draw 1-1 in Newport, then they will host Manchester United on Sunday, January 28 (kick-off 4.30pm).
The tie will be shown live on BBC One and on BBC iPlayer – with clubs for televised fourth round ties earning a broadcast fee of £110,000.
Graham Coughlan’s side have so far earned £41,000 in prize money for beating Oldham in round one, £67,000 for knocking out Barnet in round two when they bagged £30,000 for the replay being televised and the winners next week will earn £105,000.
Add in ticket sales and Tuesday’s game could be worth around £500,000 to the club.
