LIVERPOOL loanee Adam Lewis is plotting a shock downfall for Manchester United in the FA Cup – and hasn’t ruled out more big occasions with Newport County AFC in years to come.

The 24-year-old left-back is spending a second season on loan with the Exiles in League Two.

It was something of a coup for County to get Lewis back given the impact he made in his first spell that was ended prematurely by a hamstring injury.

The Scouser has returned to play games and earn his next move given that the boyhood Red is set to leave Anfield in the summer.

Lewis remains in contact with the Premier League club’s loans manager but his contract expires at the end of the season and he recognises that it will be time for a move.

“My contract is due up at Liverpool in the summer, so I am hoping to play as many games as I can towards the end of the season to try and get a move, or stay here,” said Lewis.

“I am open to anything and I have settled here. My family love it and we have friends here, while I am close with the lads in the team.

“The Huw Jenkins takeover was obviously needed, so it’s exciting times for the club and hopefully we can finish the season strongly.”

That will come after the FA Cup run, with Lewis hopeful of the biggest of upsets to extend that beyond round four when Manchester United come to town.

He said: “The draw that we got is exciting, especially for me as a big Liverpool supporter. It'll always be nice to beat them!

“For all of the lads it's something you dream of, playing in the FA Cup against one of the biggest teams in Europe and the world.

“Hopefully I can get one over them, I've had tonnes of messages from Liverpool fans and my family saying that I've got to beat them, so fingers crossed!”

Lewis has played age-grade games against the Red Devils but never a senior fixture against their ‘friends’ from down the M69.

“When I was younger there was always a bit of fire in the game. That's natural with the rivalry that Liverpool and Man United have and always will have,” said Lewis.

The left-back is relishing the chance to give County fans plenty to cheer – and he is a paid-up member of the Amber Army.

Lewis is no stranger to the away end when unavailable and was one of the 83-strong contingent that were treated to a 2-1 win in freezing Morecambe on a Tuesday at the end of November while he was on the comeback trail from a quad injury.

“I did it last year as well, I love watching football and going to the games,” he said. “I'm part of the team so when I can travel, I will.

“Some of these fans have never seen Man United, so it's a reward for them.”
