MANCHESTER United boss Erik ten Hag is confident that goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will be up to the task on debut against Newport County on Sunday.

The Red Devils head to Rodney Parade in the fourth round of the FA Cup, the last competition they can win this season.

They will be without ‘keeper Andre Onana, who is with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, and that means a first outing for Bayindir.

“I think it’s clear what we can expect from him. He waited for his chances but he is experienced,” ten Hag said about the former Fenerbahce goalkeeper, who faced Wales in Cardiff in November as a sub.

“He played in a big club in Turkey under big pressure, so he knows how to deal with it.

“We were all very convinced when we brought him into this club. It’s not a decision from one man.

“We’re looking forward to Sunday. Altay, very motivated of course and he can’t wait for this moment.”

United haven’t played since their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on January 14 after a winter break.

They will also be without Sofyan Amrabat because of AFCON while there are doubts over Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford, who both reported ill on Friday.

However, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Casemiro are set to be available.

"It's a strong side and we have still some injuries, like [Victor] Lindelof and [Tyrell] Malacia," said ten Hag.

" Rashford was ill and Evans was ill so we have to see how they recover but we have players returning like Martinez, like Shaw, like Maguire, like Casemiro, which is a good thing."

Ten Hag is not taking League Two County lightly.

"At Ajax, we also played against lower-class teams," he said. "I know always, when you go as a big club to a lower-class team, you have to approach that [professionally] and we are definitely not in the position to underestimate any opponent, so we will not do [so]."
