2017/18

The 2-1 win over Leeds was followed by a 2-1 success at Grimsby, then a 2-1 win against Crawley and draw with Morecambe.

The home draw against Tottenham was followed by defeats at Lincoln and Colchester.

The replay loss to Spurs at Wembley was followed by 5-0 defeat at Mansfield and three draws on the spin.

2018/19

The 2-1 win against Leicester was followed by a 3-2 defeat at Crewe, when hit by a late double by the hosts.

County got back on track with a 1-0 win against Exeter before drawing at Middlesbrough in the cup.

A draw at Port Vale and defeat at Grimsby was followed by the 2-0 triumph against Boro to earn a shot at Manchester City.

County headed into the game against Pep Guardiola's men after a 1-0 defeat to MK Dons but went from pushing the Premier League side hard by hammering Notts County 4-1 at Meadow Lane, with the season ultimately ending in Wembley heartbreak against Tranmere.

2020/21

County pushed Brighton all the way behind closed doors at Rodney Parade during Covid, losing on penalties to the Premier League side.

Michael Flynn’s side then endured a run of just one win in eight games as their push for automatic promotion went wrong.

That was down the deterioration of the Rodney Parade pitch - planned renovation was delayed because of the pandemic - and the loss of Scott Twine and Brandon Cooper more than a cup hangover.

The Exiles recovered but suffered another dose of Wembley play-off anguish.
