NEWPORT County AFC boss Graham Coughlan has been nominated for the League Two manager of the month award for January.

County are on a six-game unbeaten run in the league and have now won three on the bounce, conceding only one goal in victories over Doncaster Rovers, Wrexham and Swindon Town.

As well as positive results in the league, the Exiles also had success in the FA Cup – knocking out Eastleigh after a replay in the third round and hosting Premier League giants Manchester United in round four on January 28.

Bryn Morris and Will Evans were both on target as Coughlan’s men fought back to level from 2-0 down before going down 4-2 to the Red Devils.

Nominated alongside Coughlan are Lee Bell (Crewe Alexandra), Karl Robinson (Salford City) and Simon Weaver (Harrogate Town).

Evans, who is on 20 goals for the season, and his strike partner Seb Palmer-Houlden missed out on a nomination for the League Two player of the month award.

Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher is nominated after scoring a hat-trick against Barrow and netting four goals in three games last month.

Notts County winger Jodi Jones also gets a nod following his six assists in January, meaning he has equalled the League Two season record of 17. He managed four in the 5-5 draw at Grimsby Town alone with his ability to send in low bouncing crosses at pace between the opposing keeper and defenders.

Harrogate Town winger Abraham Odoh is also nominated for his stunning solo goal against Doncaster Rovers and a fine assist at Forest Green Rovers.

Crawley Town striker Danilo Orsi completes the list, as well as a sure finishing touch, having scored four goals in three January games with braces against Swindon Town and Bradford City.

The winners will be announced at 6am on Friday.
