NEWPORT County AFC forward Will Evans is in the running for the PFA League Two fans' player of the year award.

The 26-year-old has been named on an eight-strong shortlist after a remarkable second campaign in the EFL in which he scored 25 goals in 55 games.

Evans, who scored 4 in 52 the previous season, scored in six of the first seven fixtures of the campaign and had another hot streak in January and February that featured the memorable equaliser against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The striker, who finished the season as an emergency left wing-back, followed in the footsteps of Dom Telford, who in 2021/22 became the first County player to hit 20 since the return to the Football League.

Evans is up against stiff competition for the League Two award with four of the contenders playing for promoted clubs.

Goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe and forward Isaac Olaofe helped Stockport to the title, forward Davis Keillor-Dunn helped Mansfield to promotion and striker Paul Mullin was a key figure in Wrexham heading for League One.

Free-flowing Notts County have two players in the running in golden boot winner Macauley Langstaff and assist king Jodi Jones while Salford targetman Matt Smith is in the mix after bagging 24 goals.
