JUDGEMENT Day has often been a miserable experience for the Dragons yet they head to Cardiff City Stadium hunting a hat-trick of successes.

The Rodney Parade club will be in the away changing room at the home of the Bluebirds this afternoon (kick-off 3pm) for a fixture that has been shifted from Llanelli.

The Dragons are slight underdogs for the derby battle as they hunt what would be only their second double over the Scarlets after sneaking a 13-12 win in Newport on New Year's Day thanks to Sam Costelow's bizarre late miss from the tee.

They are also hunting a third win on the spin in the double-header after a long wait for the first.

The Dragons lost their first five encounters with the Scarlets at Principality Stadium plus the 2014 meeting with the Ospreys.

They finally changed the record in style under caretaker boss Ceri Jones in 2019.

The Dragons stunned the Scarlets 34-32 thanks to a a remarkable second half after trailing 17-6 at the break.

They crossed four times through lock Matthew Screech (2), centre Jack Dixon and fly-half Josh Lewis.

Screech's 79th-minute try was converted by Jason Tovey - his last major act for the club - and then Rhys Patchell failed with a drop goal attempt with the clock in the red.

After the Covid pandemic, Judgement Day returned in 2023 when the Dragons convincingly beat the Scarlets 31-14 for another bonus-point triumph.

It was an unlikely result after Dai Flanagan’s men headed to the capital on a 10-game losing streak in the URC that stretched back to the October win against Zebre.

The Dragons, with Rio Dyer in full flow, raced into a 21-0 lead thanks to tries by hooker Elliot Dee, full-back Jordan Williams and centre Sio Tomkinson.

Keiran Hardy and Carwyn Tuiplulotu scored for the Scarlets but a comeback was never on the cards and the win was sealed with a bonus at the death by centre Steff Hughes against the side that let him go.
