FORMER Newport County AFC defender Joe Woodiwiss is heading for the Cymru Premier after signing for Penybont.
The centre-back/right-back has moved to the Bridgend club after spending last season with Merthyr Town in the Southern League Premier Division South.
The 21-year-old previously played in the Cymru Premier with Pontypridd United on loan from the Exiles.
Woodiwiss came through County's academy and was a regular in the EFL Trophy.
The defender made just one senior appearance for the Rodney Parade club and it was a memorable one, starting alongside James Clarke in the Carabao Cup upset of Ipswich Town at Portman Road in 2021.
Woodiwiss will aim to shine for a Penybont side who have developed plenty of talent in recent seasons with James Waite, Nathan Wood and now Kai Whitmore earning Football League chances with County after spells with Rhys Griffiths’ team.
