TRETHOMAS Bluebirds will attempt to get back on the horse in Cymru South on Saturday afternoon when they make the short trip to Pontypridd United.

The Bluebirds suffered their first league loss of the season last weekend when beaten 4-1 by a Llanelli Town side who are likely to be title contenders.

The unbeaten Reds took the spoils thanks to goals by Danny Williams, Henry Jones, Ethan Cann and former Cwmbran Celtic man Lewis Iles.

Leon Thomas got the Bluebirds back into it when he made it 2-1 but their hopes were all but ended at 3-1 when Andy Evans was sent off.

Mark Dunford’s side will aim to bounce back when they travel to Treforest to take on Ponty, who will be without former Newport County academy striker Tom Stokes after he was sent off for two bookings in the 1-1 draw with Llantwit Major.

Trethomas remain top on goal difference ahead of Cambrian United, who are not in league action this weekend.

Third-placed Newport City are level on points with the pace-setters and aim to make it three wins on the spin when they head west to face Carmarthen Town.

The Steelmen backed up their win at Penrhiwceiber Rangers when edging out Trefelin at Spytty Park last weekend, with Joel Cotterill scoring the only goal of the game in the closing stages.

Cwmbran Celtic will have to cope without prolific striker Alex Bonthron when they host Goytre United.

The marksman is away with Tim Rhanbarthol Cymru for the UEFA Regions’ Cup in Serbia.

South Wales beat their northern counterparts at the end of last season, with Bonthron on the scoresheet in the 4-1 aggregate win, and they go up against West Slovakia today before they face FA of Vojvodina on Monday and North Macedonia Amateur next Thursday.

Celtic lost a dramatic clash at Baglan Dragons 4-3 last weekend to drop into the bottom three at this early stage of the season while Goytre are sixth, one point off top spot.
