GWENT involvement in the Nathaniel MG Cup ended in the last 16 when Barry Town United showed their Cymru Premier pedigree with a 4-1 win at Trethomas Bluebirds.
The Ardal South East champions have started life in Cymru South strongly but were overpowered in Ystrad Mynach by the Linnets, who featured former Newport County AFC defender Harrison Bright in their XI.
A first half double from Keenan Patten sent Barry on their way to victory before Ollie Hulbert finished off a well-worked attacking move to make it three early in the second half.
Mikey George added a fourth from close range just after the hour mark to put the game beyond any doubt, but the Bluebirds did get on the scoresheet as Jack Jones produced a neat finish in the 79th minute.
Mark Dunford’s side will hope for better fortunes in knockout football this weekend when travelling to Taffs Well in the FAW Welsh Cup.
Elseweher in the Nathaniel MG Cup, Cardiff City beat Merthyr Town 2-1, Cardiff Met thrashed Goytre United 9-1 and Penybont edged out Haverfordwest 1-0.
In the northern section, TNS beat Airbus UK Broughton 1-0, Connah’s Quay won 3-2 against Caernarfon Town, Aberystwyth went through 3-2 against Llandudno and Bala beat Holywell 2-0.
