NEWPORT County AFC have signed forward Geoffroy Bony – son of former Premier League star and frequent trainer with the Exiles Wilfried – on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old, who was with Swansea's academy, has been on trial with the Exiles and after earning a contract is in contention to be in the squad for Saturday’s League Two clash with Notts County.
Geoffroy becomes the second Bony to be at the club, joining younger brother Orphee who has been impressing for the under-18s.
The forward will attempt to showcase his talent for County, and potentially earn a longer stay in Newport under head coach Nelson Jardim.
“It feels good to join the club,” said the new recruit. “I was speaking with the manager before coming here, with him having worked at Swansea, and I really like the project he is building at Newport.
“I’ve been training with the team for a few weeks now, and I can see there are some really talented players at the club. I’m eager to kick on, make an impact, and help push the team forward.”
Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony is a Swansea favourite after spending two spells with the club, his first earning a £28million move to Manchester City.
The physical striker became a familiar face at Spytty Park when training with the Exiles to stay sharp for moves elsewhere under previous bosses Michael Flynn, James Rowberry and Graham Coughlan.
Wilfried even played for County in a development fixture in 2022 – and scored the winner in a 2-1 success against Swindon.
