CHEPSTOW Boxing club members have had a busy week of competition according to the gym’s head coach Steve Woods.
“On Tuesday night the club had three boxing in Pantside,” he said later.
“First was Karrell Islam, 14, who took on Pantside’s Luke Salathiel.
“Karrell boxed superbly, following instructions very well to out-box the home boy and take a split decision win.
“Next we had Terry Mullane sharing the ring in a National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Welsh semi final with Dion Jones of Cardigan.
“Terry showed he was a class above his opponent in a fantastic display of boxing and won unanimously. As a result, Terry now joins clubmate Wilander Ordinado in the finals due to take place on Sunday, November 2.
“Unfortunately, Codi Leamon lost his semi final bout to Jake Acreman of Fleur-De-Lys.
"On Friday the club had boxers at the Pontyclun show, where Jay McCullagh boxed the very talented Jersey Desmond of Bonymaen BC.
“Bonymaen’s head coach is ex-world champion Enzo Maccarinelli. This was another NABGC semi final.
"Jay lost on points in a very closely-contested bout which easily could have gone either way.
"The boxers were also deservedly awarded with the best bout of the night trophy.”
