Chepstow Boxing Club members have been in action over the weekend.

“What a few days this has been,” was head coach Steve Woods’ evaluation of the boxers’ mixed results.

“On Thursday evening we had Scott Marchant (22) take on Finley Valvo of the Barry West End club, at the Llantwit Major show.  We took this bout with two days' notice.

“Scott gave his opponent a standing eight count after dropping him in round one, but the bout went the distance and Scott won by a split decision.

“On Saturday, in Taunton, we should have had Patrick Mullane (16) and Karrell Islam (14) compete in the National Association of the Boys and Girls Club GB semi-finals, but Patrick failed to make the weight so he was out of the competition.

“Karrell took on Charlie Knight of the PEJ Margate club, but Knight was clearly too strong for our boxer and the ref stopped the bout in round two.

“Then on a club show the same night, also in Taunton, we were at the Blue Flames show.

"Oliver McKenzie boxed Charlie Stenson of Blue Flames and won by a first-round stoppage, a great way to end what was a tough day for our club.”
