Cwmcarn Paragon Cycling Club are just concluding what has probably been one of their most successful seasons.

The 2008 season had riders from the club win Welsh and British Championships in time trials, track, road races, criteriums, mountain bike and cyclo-cross events, contest the World Off-Road Championships, set new British track records and look for continued success through participation on the Olympic Development Programme.

David Povall, Darren Carpenter, Richard Harris, Andrew Williams and Matthew Jones have all had an outstanding season.

But shining like a beacon on a stormy night, the performances of Sam Harrison throughout the year have been superb.

Since his arrival to competitive cycling in 2006, winning gold in the Welsh Track Championships and overall victory in the Youth Category of the Welsh Cyclo-Cross League, winning seven races, he has gone from strength to strength.

2007 results confirmed his talent with victory in the Welsh Criterium Championships and two gold medals at the Welsh Track Championships and inclusion on the OD Programme.

2008 for the 16 year old Cwmcarn schoolboy has been one success after another, far too many to mention.

But among the highlights were victory in the Isle of Man Junior Tour, Roeslare Kermesse (Belgium), Cardiff Grand Prix, GHS Divisional Champion (Wales), British GHS Champion, British record holder 2km Pursuit, Abergavenny Town Centre Criterium, Ystwyth Autumn Road Race.

And, as well, two gold medals at the Welsh Track Championships.

Harrison was back in action among 100 riders for the Welsh Cyclo-Cross Championships held on a frozen Parc Cwm Darren, Deri course (12/12).

Harrison was soon in the lead from Ian Jeremiah (Cardiff Jiff) and the two would be locked in a race long battle.

In the later stages of the race Jeremiah pulled out a winning lead, with Harrison an excellent 2nd overall and 1st Junior.
