EBBW Vale, after four successive Welsh Premiership defeats, got their act together to avoid a potential banana skin to overcome a plucky but outclassed Llandudno 69–3 in round four of the Swalec Cup.

The Steelmen, who are seeing the return of several influential players returning from injury, left no stone unturned in their preparations, travelling to the North Wales coast on Friday and treating the Seasiders with bags of respect.

But there was never going to be an upset in the match as Vale romped into a 46-3 interval lead and kept their foot on the accelerator to book their place in the last 32 with an emphatic score-line.

Andrew McLaughlan led the way with a try hat trick, touching down twice in the first half and once after the break, and the consistent Aaron Bramwell was in fine form with the boot, converting seven of the 11 tries and touching down for a try to make it a personal tally of 19 points.

Following this triumph Vale will go into their local derby against Pontypool next weekend with greater confidence.

Scorers: Llandudno: Penalty – J Davies.

Ebbw Vale: Tries – A McLaughlan (3), S Powell (2), C Owen, J Thomas, A Bramwell, A Bevan, M Griffin, R Wilks; conversions – Bramwell (7).
