THE wet weather is starting to affect the local league pitches and the P&P Pest Control Open Cup Round One match was one hit.

Panteg B from Division Two were due to play at home to Division One leaders, Clydach Wasps. The pitch at Greenhill Road was waterlogged so arrangements were made for Panteg B to forfeit home advantage to play at Clydach A.

This meant postponing the Clydach B vs Usk Town match, which was done through phone calls to the Usk Town secretary on holiday in Paris.

This then was followed by a phone call from the Panteg FC club to say they could not raise a side, so Clydach Wasps go through to round two by default.

In the Premier third placed side Gilwern & District were at home to high flyers Trevethin.

Adam Carrington put Gilwern 1-0 up when he scored a goal in the 25th minute five minutes before half time.

Matthew Williams gave Gilwern a 2-0 lead with a goal scored in the 40th minute. This gave Gilwern a 2-0 half time lead.

In the 50th minute, Dwain Hunt pulled a goal back for Trevethin. Ten minutes later Kieran Shelvin scored to put Gilwern 3-1 in front, then Shaun Williams missed a penalty for Trevethin that would have pulled Trevethin back to 3-2.

Andrew McCarthy scored in the 70th minute to put Gilwern 4-1 in the 85th minute. Shaun Williams slotted the ball home for Trevethin’s second goal.

The Premier Division’s top side, Pontypool Town visited The Island, Usk, to take on Usk Town.

Simon Pugh gave Pontypool Town a 0-1 half time lead. Phil Samson put Usk Town level at 1-1. Simon Pugh got his second goal of the match to put Pontypool Town 2-1 in front in the 83rd minute of the match.

Usk Town had a golden opportunity to go level at 2-2 from the penalty spot. But Joe Henry’s effort was brilliantly saved by the Pontypool Town keeper, Justin Silver. The Premier Division’s two bottom clubs played each other. Llanarth was home to Llanfoist. At half time, Llanarth had established a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Llanarth scored four more and Llanfoist got one. Goal scorers for Llanarth were Jamie Edwards (2), Colin Morgan (2), Luke Williams and Steve Morgan. Gavin Ewers scored a consolation for Llanfoist.

In Division One second placed side Goytre take over the top position from Clydach Wasps following their 4-2 home win over Sebastopol at Plough Road. Goytre led 3-1 at half-time.

The Blaenavon Blues vs PILCS game was off due to a water-logged pitch. Panteg took maximum points from their visit to Cwmffrwdoer with a 5-1 win. Panteg established a 4-0 half-time lead. Goal scorers for Panteg were Anthony Roach-Blackwell (2), Chris Masey, Frazer Millar plus a Miles Egford own goal.

Fairfield United came away from Thursday’s Pen-y-Pound stadium with a 2-1 away win. At half time the sides were level 1-1 with Allan Russell scoring for Fairfield United from the penalty spot and Steve Hollingsworth scored for Thursdays.

Prescoed lead Division Two by seven points from second placed side, Clydach B, following Prescoed’s 8-1 home win over Trevethin B.

Prescoed led 4-1 at half time. Goal scorers for Prescoed were Paul Palfrey (hat-trick), Ohren Stewart (2), Andrew Buller, Andrew Saunders and Patrick Mbefano all scored one apiece.

Pontypool Town B had a 7-1 home win on Albion Road over Llanarth B, who led Pontypool Town B 0-1 at half time through a goal scored in the 20th minute from a shot by Gavin Phillips.

With a strong wind behind them in the second half Pontypool Town B hit seven against Llanarth B. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B were Karl Hooper (2), Gary Bond (2) plus Kyle Edwards, David Collier and Richard Cross. Man of the Match for Pontypool B was Gary Bond and for Llanarth B Mark Ferri.
