NEWPORT County manager Dean Holdsworth is in no doubt that Giuseppe Sole still has a big part to play at the club this season.

The talented forward, signed from Woking this summer, yesterday joined Blue Square Bet South outfit Dorchester Town in a three-month loan deal.

Sole, pictured, has struggled to earn a place in Holdsworth’s matchday squad of 16 in the past few weeks and both parties have agreed that the move would benefit the player.

“I spoke to Gez when the offer came in from Dorchester and he was happy to go out and get some game-time,” said Holdsworth.

“Footballers want to play football and he’s not been featuring lately so this is a good solution for everyone.

“It was a hard decision for me because in an ideal world I would have liked to have kept him but we’ve done the right thing by him,” he added.

“Hopefully he will get a regular game with Dorchester and come back to us in three months all guns blazing.”

Dorchester are managed by ex-County captain Ashley Vickers and he’s delighted to welcome Sole.

“Giuseppe will be a great acquisition, he’s made a commitment to train with us as well, and I’m really excited about welcoming him to the club,” said the former Spytty Park favourite.

“We’ve been creating a lot of chances but not taking them, so hopefully Giuseppe will help with that.

“Goalscoring is obviously a huge part of the game and goalscorers are often the difference between teams at the top of the table and those at the bottom.

“Bringing him in is a big bonus and if he starts ticking it can rub off on everyone else,” he added.

“We’re only paying part of his wages and Dean has done us a huge favour, which I won’t forget and one day hope to repay.”

Holdsworth would not be drawn on the financial agreement between the two clubs over Sole but admitted that the move would free up some funds to help in his search for a defender this week.

“We can’t afford to have someone like Gez sitting in the stands and this means there will be more money available to bring in cover at the back,” said the Exiles boss.

“We hope to get a defender in on loan in the next two days and certainly before the Rushden game on Saturday but there’s no panic and we won’t rush into anything.”
