NEWPORT County beat League Two side Cheltenham Town 1-0 as their preparation for the new campaign continues.
A dour first half ended scoreless but the Exiles were by far the stronger outfit in the second period and won the game courtesy of a Yakubu header just before the hour mark.
Former Northampton and Arsenal defender Paul Rodgers replaced Blackpool bound Paul Bignot at right back and County revealed after the game they are close to signing the 22-year old.
Full report and reaction from boss Anthony Hudson in Monday's Argus Sport.
