WALES are sweating on the fitness of flankers Dan Lydiate and Sam Warburton ahead of Sunday’s Six Nations clash with Scotland in Cardiff.

Newport Gwent Dragons blindside Lydiate missed the weekend’s sensational 23-21 win over Ireland in Dublin with an ankle injury.

Wales skipper Warburton suffered a dead leg and was replaced at half-time in their victory by openside Justin Tipuric.

A Wales team source said yesterday they were hopeful the pair would be available to face the Scots who should have beaten England at Murrayfield on Saturday, only to lose 13-6.

The pair will undergo a medical assessment tomorrow.

Wales are also waiting to find out if young Cardiff Blues winger Alex Cuthbert will be fit after he was replaced in the 41st minute of the win over Ireland by James Hook.

The 6ft 6in and 16st 5lb back suffered a head injury. One player who looks certain to miss the Scotland match at the Millennium Stadium is lock Bradley Davies.

Wales coach Warren Gatland said the Blues second row has been cited for a tip tackle that saw him sin-binned at the Aviva Stadium.

Davies upended Donnacha Ryan in the 65th minute, earning a yellow card from referee Wayne Barnes.

Italian Achille Reali, the independent match citing commissioner, has until 5pm tomorrow to make a decision on Davies, who would then face a disciplinary hearing later this week.

Ryan Jones is the likely candidate to replace Davies if he is banned should Lydiate recover in time.

Former Newport player Jones filled in at six against Ireland but has excelled at lock for the Ospreys in recent seasons.
