NEWPORT County last night confirmed the signing Swindon Town striker Ashan Holgate.

The 20-year-old joins on a month's loan as County look to continue their fine start to the season.

Manager Peter Beadle unsuccesfully attempted to sign Holgate last term, so is pleased to have the Robins man on board.

He said: "I am delighted to have Ashan at the club, who I attempted to sign last season.

"Ashan is a young man with a bright future who is looking to challenge with Newport County and I am sure he will bring a new dimension to the team."

Meanwhile, County have allowed midfielder Ashley Williams to sign for Yate on a month's loan.

Beadle is hoping that Williams, whose wife Emma gave birth to a baby girl last week, will benefit from a break at another club and return a better player.

He said: "After a long time at the club, Ashley has lost his sparkle with his recent form that only regular competitive football can bring.

"We hope that after his month away Ashley can return to the club to fulfil his full potential."

Beadle has also sent goalkeeper Jacob Giles out to Gloucester City to join former manager Tim Harris on a month's loan.

Meanwhile Keiron Blackburn has returned to Spytty Park from the USA and with Tony Pennock sidelined will provide cover for County number one Mark Ovendale.

And Beadle is keen to stress that both the moves involving Williams and Giles are only loan deals and hopes they will return to the club.

He said: "Both Ashley and Jacob remain in my plans and have an important role to play at the club."
