PONTYPOOL look to cut down on their mistakes and make the most of possession for Aberavon’s visit tomorrow.

Pooler slumped to a 24-7 defeat to Llanelli at a raid-sodden Parc y Scarlets last Saturday and look to learn from their mistakes.

“The one occasion we managed to go through a few phrases last Saturday, we scored,” Pontypool assistant coach Shaun Connor said.

“We need to cut down on our individual errors and keep the ball a little better against Aberavon.”

Pooler look to halt a four-match losing streak but the Wizards are also on a bad run having been defeated in their last three.

The most recent of those Aberavon defeats was a shock 17-15 setback to Division One East high flyers Bargoed at the Talbot Athletic Ground in the Swalec Cup a fortnight ago.

And Connor knows Aberavon will be seething after that upset.

“I know Simon King and Nicky Lloyd (Aberavon’s coaches) very well and they’ll have their team bouncing for this one,” he said.

“Aberavon are a quality side with quality players and they will come to us looking to get back to winning ways.”

But Pooler also look to move up the Premiership table with Newport, one above bottom-placed Tonmawr, just two points behind them with a game in hand “We’re also looking to put a run in the league together with every game like a cup final for us now,” Connor said.

Pooler lock/back rower Rhys Bowen is set to be fit for the weekend after breaking a finger against Llanelli.

They are also waiting to see if captain Geraint Morris gets the go-ahead after struggling with a shoulder injury in recent weeks.

They also hope to play promising teenager centre Jack Dixon, the 17-year-old making his Pontypool debut at Parc y Scarlets last week.

Connor said: “Jack was involved with Wales Under-18s on Tuesday.

“I thought he was solid against Llanelli and defended brilliantly. He is going to be a class player and didn’t look out of place at all last week.”
