NEWPORT County announced a double deal tonight after goalkeeper Danny Potter was released with immediate effect.
The former Torquay goalkeeper was a summer signing by ex-boss Anthony Hudson but never really impressed the Spytty Park faithful. His rocky form was compounded by a surprising blast at the Newport faithful following their 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town.
It is understood the Exiles and Potter agreed to a termination today but the Argus has learned Potter is set to sign a short-term deal with Staines who have already made contact with the stopper.
County haven’t wasted time in signing a replacement, agreeing a loan for Karl Darlow of Nottingham Forest, subject to international clearance. He has played in their first team once.
The 21-year old was previously with Aston Villa and is the grandson of former Wales striker Ken Leek.
