NEWPORT County AFC were frustrated by Grimsby Town as the battle of the promotion hopefuls ended in stalemate at Rodney Parade.
The Exiles were knocked off the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table on Friday night when Forest Green Rovers beat Lincoln City 3-0 and they were unable to regain top spot against the Mariners.
In a tight match with very few clear cut chances it was Justin Edinburgh's men who came closest to breaking the deadlock as Danny Crow saw one effort blocked on the line in the first half.
And after the break substitute Ben Swallow's cross evaded everyone and beat Grimsby goalkeeper James McKeown only to bounce back off the inside of his far post to safety.
