EBBW Vale are two from two in the Premiership Cup thanks to a 16-6 win over Pontypridd at Eugene Cross Park.

The Steelmen started the season with a shock triumph at Merthyr and backed it up with a hard-earned triumph against Ponty.

Ebbw started strongly and got their reward with an early penalty by fly-half Lewis K Williams, who had kicked them to the late triumph at the Wern on opening weekend.

With the pack performing strongly, the playmaker repeated the trick approaching half-time for a 6-0 lead.

Ben Burnell kicked a pair of penalties either side of a Williams effort and it was a nip and tuck encounter entering the final stages.

The Steelmen secured the spoils when centre Dom Franchi went over for the game’s only try with Williams adding the extras.

Ebbw’s 16-6 success means they are the only unbeaten side in the east group of the competition.
