IT WAS interesting to see how the other half live when heading over to Bath for a training session this week and hopefully we’ll reap the rewards by keeping our home winning streak going against Edinburgh on Sunday.

We’ve travelled to their Farleigh House base before and it was another good exercise on Wednesday; it’s good to change the routine every now and then.

Swapping a regulation day at Ystrad Mynach for another professional environment was interesting and it’s clear to see why Bath are flying high in the Aviva Premiership.

It’s an impressive operation over there and we got the chance to try out some new plays against a team second in the English league and in good form.

It was good to see some familiar faces in former Dragons Aled Brew, Shaun Knight and Darren Edwards while I got to bump into scrum-half Darren Allinson, who I know from Wales Under-20s days and is on loan at Bath from London Irish.

We could well have another reunion on Sunday if Jason Tovey is selected in the Edinburgh side for our return to Guinness Pro12 action at Rodney Parade. He’s been battling with Duncan Weir for starts so we know whoever gets the nod is a quality 10.

This weekend is a big opportunity for us to continue our home run after wins against Brive, Connacht and the Scarlets.

I’m hoping to be back in the side after being troubled by a calf injury and sitting out the Anglo-Welsh Cup games against Leicester and the Scarlets.

I’ll look to play my part in helping us to continue doing what we’ve been doing – the old mantra about worrying about ourselves rather than the opposition rings true.

However, one thing that Edinburgh have had in the past is an outstanding scrum that has almost won games on its own.

They will head here without the Scotland trio of Alasdair Dickinson, Ross Ford and WP Nel because of injuries and international duty so hopefully we will get some positive rewards at the set piece.

Our defensive lineout has also been outstanding this season and if that continues we can take away another of their traditional strengths.

Hopefully we will come up with the answers at Rodney Parade… as our regulars 'les quizerables'  did at The Lamb for quiz night on Wednesday.

I must admit pub quizzes were never really my thing but I’ve enjoyed taking up the role as quiz master, particularly introducing my own music round (I like to mix up the genres).

It’s been a good laugh at the Lamb recently with me and fellow landlord Rich Davenport taking part in an ‘I’m a Celebrity’ style Bushtucker trial to raise money for Children In Need while after the Scarlets game we had the Caerleon boys Ashton Hewitt, Tyler Morgan and Angus O’Brien in for a post-match Q&A.

We’ll be doing another post-match chat with a few players on Sunday while it's not long until the final event for mine and Ashley Smith's beneficiary year - Christmas at the Dragons.

South Wales Argus:

It's a family event in the marquee at Rodney Parade with festive food, carols, music, Q&As with players and an appearance from Santa.

It's on Saturday, December 17 at 6pm and would be great to start Christmas off with another home win against Worcester followed by a party to celebrate.
