WALES’ women’s hopes of qualifying for the 2015 World Cup are over after a 1-0 defeat in Ukraine in their final qualifier.
Wales needed to win in Lviv and hope Finland lost to France to secure a play-off spot but they couldn’t force the result they needed.
Tetyana Romanenko’s 61st minute strike for the hosts was the only goal of the game and it means that Jarmo Matikainen’s side will not be going to next year’s tournament in Canada.
Finnish coach Matikainen, aged 54, will also now step down from his role after four years in charge of the Welsh women’s teams.
