UNBEATEN Goytre remain Welsh League Division One leaders thanks to a 3-2 home win over Aberbargoed Buds, but there were defeats for Monmouth Town and bottom-placed Risca United.

In Division Two, Cwmbran Celtic striker Josh Bull took his goal tally to six in only three winning games while Caldicot Town also posted a third successive victory since the start of the new season.

There were no Division Three matches because Welsh Cup first-round ties with progress made by Caerleon, Newport Civil Service and Treowen Stars.

Goytre entertained Aberbargoed at their Plough Road, with the visitors taking control with a strike from Tom McCarthy plus an own goal and led by that 2-0 scoreline with still only 20 minutes remaining.

However a magnificent comeback from Goytre, who were minus pre-season signings Kris Leek and Lewis Sommers, saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with two goals from Callum Miles and another by Matthew Prosser.

The outcome leaves Goytre top ahead of Cardiff Metropolitan University, but promoted Aberbargoed are still searching for a first win following two defeats and a draw.

Monmouth are just one place above Aberbargoed in 12th position of 16 with just one point from a possible nine - The Kingfishers going down to a 4-2 away defeat at the hands of Cambrian & Clydach, where Nick Harrhy and Dan MacDonald netted.

It's even worse for Risca, who have lost all three of their top-tier fixtures following promotion - this time The Cuckoos having only a Jonathan Payne goal to show for in a 3-1 home reverse at the hands of Ton Pentre.

Celtic new manager Nicky Church brought back Bull to the club after brief spells away with Monmouth and Goytre.

The 22-year-old has certainly repaid the faith and his double in his side's emphatic 5-1 home triumph over West End (Swansea) increased his lead at the top of the goalscorers' list for this players appearing for Gwent clubs.

Celtic were dominant for long periods and may well have ended up in double figures on another day, although it must be pointed out the visitors also struck the woodwork twice.

Bull, defender Rhys Williams and attacking midfielder Chris Ham had Celtic 3-0 ahead at the break before Jonathan Eames reduced the arrears with a 57th-minute penalty.

However Celtic, who won the corresponding fixture 9-1 last season, forged ahead again with further goals coming from Bull and Owen Llewellyn.

Celtic are second behind leaders Llanelli Town with Caldicot third after they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Croesyceiliog, who have now lost both of the games.

On target for Caldicot at Jubilee Way were Dan Saunders (2) and Sam Watkins while sixth-placed Undy Athletic grabbed a point from a 1-1 away draw Pontardawe Town - Marcus Power equalising to make light of the fact Undy were minus nine of their squad.

One of the most unpredicted results was Chepstow Town's 6-0 home thrashing of Dinas Powys with efforts by Simon Prangley (2), Leo Ross, Ben Ashman, Tom Barry and an own goal counting.

The outcome was just eight days after Chepstow opened their campaign with a 7-1 defeat at Llanelli, which was followed by a 1-0 reverse at Caldicot.

Llanwern's scheduled away match against Ammanford was postponed because of an unfit playing surface at the hosts' Recreation Ground.

In the Welsh Cup, Caerleon sprang something of a surprise by winning 2-0 at the home of Division Three rivals Tredegar Town while in another lower-tier tie, Newport Civil Service got past Lliswerry 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1, after-extra-time draw.

Caerleon scored through Luke Cueto and Jamie Davies while netting for Lliswerry and NCS were Lewis Miles and Callum Hodges respectively.

NCS goalkeeper Josh Griffiths was the star man in pulling several fine saves in normal play before stopping two penalties in the shoot-out.

Treowen Stars received South Wales Alliance outfit Aber Valley and made through to round two thanks to goals from Matthew Jones, Johnny Edwards Ricky Amos.

But the tie between hosts Panteg and Newport YMCA will have to take place again after their Friday night clash was abandoned following a 4-4 draw.

The match referee decided the would not be enough day light to complete 30 mins of extra time or any would-be penalty shoot-out and the match must be played again on Saturday at Panteg House.

Scoring Panteg were Luke Dyke (2), Sam Bennett Am Ben Walker with Nial Simmons (2), Ben Lawrence and Daniel Stoneman replying foer YMCA, who had Kirk Hicks sent off.

* Former Croesyceiliog and Cwmbran Celtic boss Gareth Morgan, who resigned as manager of Llanwern in pre-season, was in charge of AFC Porth for the first time as they slipped to a 2-1 Division Two defeat at Margam-based Tata Steel.
