SPURS boss Mauricio Pochettino gave his backing to Newport County AFC’s fight for promotion from League Two after getting the better of Michael Flynn’s men in their FA Cup replay at Wembley.
Two first-half goals saw Tottenham secure a fifth-round tie at Rochdale, as the Londoners go in search of a first trophy under Argentinian Pochettino.
The Spurs chief was hugely complimentary of the Exiles following the 1-1 draw between the sides in Newport last month.
And after Wednesday’s victory, he said: “I have learned the FA Cup is magical.
“I wish Newport all the best. I hope they win games and fight to be in the play-off to go to League One.
“Our relationship was fantastic at the game in Newport and now we will share a glass of wine with Michael and his staff and to share our experiences.
“It is always good to meet people and learn from each other. It’s a good opportunity to have a good chat and a glass of wine.”
Meanwhile, Pochettino believes Tottenham’s experience of playing at Rodney Parade will stand them in good stead for their trip to Spotland in the next round.
When asked if he was aware of the poor state of the Rochdale pitch, he added: “I hear that it was not in the best condition, but I think it was like Newport.
“I think we need to learn from Newport, the condition will be [bad] for us but it will be the same for them too.
“We will see. I haven’t seen it yet because I always prefer to be focused on this game and then see what happens in the next one. But I think it will be tough.”
