NEWPORT County AFC have announced that defender Darren Jones has accepted a one-year contract extension.

Jones rejoined the club from Forest Green Rovers in January and went on to make 17 appearances for the Exiles during the remainder of the 2015/2016 campaign, scoring in the 3-0 victory at Portsmouth.

The 32-year-old centre-back has previously played for Cheltenham Town, Hereford United, AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town and Shrewsbury Town.

Jones told the club website: “I’m happy to be staying here for another season and now focused on getting back into the swing of things during pre-season.

“Warren is a great manager and there will be a couple of new faces in the squad, so it as an exciting period as we look ahead to the coming season.”

Manager Warren Feeney added: “Darren did a very good job for us since he came back to the club in January.

“He is a good character to have in the changing room, as he makes the other players around him raise their games and I'm happy that Darren has chosen to extend his stay with us for next season, as we continue to build a competitive squad.”
