Newport County boss Michael Flynn eyes one more loan signing

But he again reiterated that he will need to move at least one player on to release the funds needed to further strengthen his squad.

Flynn has so far made 11 summer signings with goalkeeper Tom King, defenders Kyle Howkins, Lazar Stojsavljevic, Marvel Ekpiteta, Daniel Leadbitter, Danny McNamara, Ryan Haynes and George Nurse, midfielder Taylor Maloney and forwards Corey Whitely and Tristan Abrahams all arriving at Rodney Parade.

Asked if it was likely that he would be adding a 12th name to that list, Flynn said: “I need to get one or two out before I do anything and until that happens then, no.

“But, generally, I’m happy with the squad.”

McNamara (above, with Joss Labadie), Nurse and Maloney have all joined on loan from Championship clubs Millwall, Bristol City and Charlton Athletic respectively, and Flynn believes that any additional loan signings will happen at the end of the month.

“The players who they [Championship and Premier League clubs] have kept, I think they’ll leave until the last week of our window now,” said the Exiles boss.

“It gives them longer to assess them and there’s nothing we can do about that. We’ve just got to wait and see if we can nab one.”

And Flynn is confident that recent success stories at Rodney Parade will help him convince other future stars to make a temporary switch to Newport.

“We’re definitely a more attractive prospect now,” he said. “We’re doing better and the pitch is better. I know that was a big concern with a few clubs going back a few years.

“And I think I’ve shown that I’ve got a good record of doing well with young footballers – the likes of Ben White, Antoine Semenyo.

“In fact all four of the Bristol City players who have been here [Semenyo, Tyreeq Bakinson, Cameron Pring and Shawn McCoulsky] got new contracts, so it shows that we’re doing something right.”
