GOLFER Chris Hughes pitched in with a grand contribution during his year as captain of a Gwent club.
Chris, from Mathern, near Chepstow, nominated St David’s Hospice Care as his charity during his year as club captain of Dewstow Golf Club, near Caldicot.
The former police detective inspector chose to fundraise for St David’s Hospice Care after the charity cared for his late mother in law Elizabeth Fyhn.
Chris said: “The St David’s Hospice Care nurse who cared from my mother in law was absolutely fantastic. She worked tirelessly from my mother in law going above and beyond in the care that she gave her.
“My wife Angela and I really can’t thank the charity enough for what they did for Elizabeth. And it is because of this and the wonderful work that they continue to do that I chose to support the charity during my year as captain at Dewstow Golf Club.”
Receiving the cheque for £1,130 Tania Ansell, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We are ever so grateful to Chris and Dewstow Golf Club members for raising this tremendous amount of money for the charity. This money will now be used to help us to continue to provide the vital care and services that we deliver throughout our community.”
