CROMWELL Youth AFC U12s are celebrating after winning the Newport and District Cup final 2-1 at the Newport Stadium in a close match with Villa Dino.

It was a tight affair and although mostly in control of the match, it just didn't happen in front of goal in the first half for Cromwell, where the posts and side netting were hit on a few occasions.

That was until Ethan Pryzborowski scored to put the Blue and Whites into the lead to a rousing cheer from the ever-growing Cromwell crowd (which included a lot of people from all age ranges, including the chairman).

This is how it was to stay throughout the rest of the first half, but just before the break, Villa Dino equalized from an unfortunate deflected own goal to make the half time score 1-1. After the break in proceedings and the wind now behind Cromwell, it was more of the same regards controlling the match, which was augmented by another Cromwell goal.

This time the scorer was Joshua Richardson, putting Cromwell 2-1 into the lead.

With more pressure now on either defence not to concede and the game opening more, it was some last ditch tackling and blocks that kept the scoreline the same and eventually seeing the Corporation Road side to victory 2-1.

The crowd showed their appreciation to both sides in a keenly contested match. Well done to all the players involved, but on the day it was to the Blues and Whites that would come out on top, not just from this final match, but the way they played throughout the earlier rounds, especially the semi final against Caerleon where they won 4-3 after extra time.

Congratulations to the coaches John Jarvis and Andrew Pullen in masterminding their Cup run. Everybody at Cromwell Youth AFC are proud of the way the boys conducted themselves.

Commiserations to Villa Dino who put up a good showing on the day.
