MICHAEL Flynn praised his much-changed team for containing a talented Chelsea under-21 side and taking their chances to earn victory in the Checkatrade Trophy at Rodney Parade.
The Newport County AFC boss made nine changes but two goals from Jamille Matt either side of half-time and a late third from substitute Antoine Semenyo gave the Exiles three points and £10,000 in prize money.
“I thought the boys were fantastic against a very good set of young players,” said Flynn.
“With the facilities and the finances that a club like Chelsea have got they’ll be the best youngsters in the country at that age.
“They played some really good football, especially in the second half, but we kept our shape really well and took our goals so it was pleasing.
“It’s a very good win and I’m pleased to get my first win as a manager in the Checkatrade Trophy.”
